Redesign facade
The building on the Constant Rebecqueplein originally belonged to the electricity factory behind it. As the current part of Broedplaats DCR, it has been given a theatre destination, but the theatre did not meet the legal requirements and wishes of the user on a number of points.
MIXD was asked by the landlord, the municipality of The Hague to make a redesign for the auditorium facade and the former doorman's house in which all acoustic, thermal, economic, aesthetic and user requirements were taken into account. Moreover, MIXD took into account the future spatial changes to the square, although this was not a requirement.
MIXD opted to replace the aluminium single-glazed window frames with much slimmer curved steel frames in a double-glazed version with thermal break. This restores the industrial look, including the elegantly curved glass surfaces at the corners of the original design.
In addition to the design, MIXD took care of the architectural specifications, the supervision of the acoustic and installation-technical advice, the supervision of the tender and the building management.
