Redesign entrance
The complex of the Koorenhuis on the Prinsegracht in The Hague originally consists of four different buildings: an open market hall and three houses. Since its construction in 1663, trade, art, culture and education have taken place here simultaneously. In 1967 the buildings were designated as a National Monument and in 1992 it underwent an alteration under the direction of architect Mart van Schijndel. In 2013, the users identified a number of problems concerning the entrance: not sufficiently accessible for the disabled visitor, draught and lack of clarity at the entrance.
MIXD took on the redesign of the entrance. Introduction of automatic doors and more glass optimizes accessibility and when entering you now experience the monumental space, including the beamed ceiling. The glass offers space to apply the graphic identity carriers (logo) of the Koorenhuis. In good consultation, design bureau Sin has integrated the house style into the architecture.
